John Lewis, A Lesson

There is so much to say about John Lewis and the incredible hole his death leaves in our world.

He was known as the conscience of the House. He should have been our national conscience. He was a man of action, of peace, of accomplishment, of change. Few of us could be described truthfully as such.

I hope that with all that is going on—the continued rule of our amoral and bigoted president, the pandemic Trump ignores, the economic collapse—I hope we remember the example of Lewis and what should known as the Greatest Generation of the Civil Rights Movement.

It is only through peaceful protest and civil disobedience that is aligned with the political world as well as effective strategies to achieve effective goals that we can create sustainable change.

In other words, change lives at the intersection of activism and politics.

This is the only way.
