One True Sentence
The best piece of writing advice I have ever heard is this: Write just one true sentence.
Love it. Not to be a cliche, but it comes from Hemingway in A Moveable Feast.
Stuck with a transition? Write just one true sentence.
Mired in dialogue? Write just one true sentence.
Writer's block? Write just one true sentence.
Bedeviled by description? Write just one true sentence.
This piece of writing advice is so universally true, I tattooed it to my arm (see photo above). It is the essence of what I try to do or strive to do with each sentence. It is the core of my writing and editing.
